Applying for a Studio at Fenway Studios
Please note that all inquiries regarding studio space should be addressed
to:
Board of Directors, Fenway Studios, 30 Ipswich Street, Boston, MA 02215.
Friends of Fenway Studios does not administer studio availability.
Fenway Studios is a limited-equity cooperative building. Members of the cooperative are serious artists committed to sharing the demanding job of running a successful cooperative. Application may be made for studio space, which will be considered as openings permit. Applicants should be aware that there is a waiting list.
Under the guidelines of a limited-equity cooperative, members purchase shares in a corporation, not a studio space. When members wish to sell their shares, they will receive an amount totaling the base price, plus a cost of living increase and the value of improvements adjusted for depreciation. In other words, when shares are sold, there is a small increase, but no profit.
Costs
All spaces are legal live-in studios, and all are north-facing. Each upper level studio has at least two 12' x 6' windows. Basement studio windows are 6' x 6'. The chart below indicates minimum measurements and does not reflect additions such as lofts. No two studios are exactly alike. The initial cost of buying shares for a studio averages about $18,000, plus the value of any renovations adjusted for depreciation. The monthly carrying charges, shown below, are current as of January 2007.
| Room Type | Square Feet | Cost per Month |
|---|---|---|
| 2 window | 600 | $658 |
| 2 window, near elevator | 700 | $986 |
| 3 window | 900 | $855 |
| 3 window, end studio | 1000 | $1313 |
| Small basement | 1200 | $789 |
| Large basement | 2000 | $855 |
The small studios are usually offered to new members, as current members have priority to move into larger studios when they become available.
